The week ahead
Just a heads up that there will be slow posting this week since we are on deadline preparing our Mar/Apr issue for the printer. Normal daily posting will resume next week.

  • Ice babe Sasha Cohen, whom we profiled in our Jan/Feb issue, skated her way to first place last night sporting a now ubiquitous red Kabbalah bracelet. Guess the good luck charm worked.
  • JTA contemplates how films are made.
  • Gina Gershon (yep, she's a Jew) has signed on to a new NBC dramedy pilot about three hot New York businesswomen. We can hardly wait.
  • The illustrator for Madonna's children's Kabbalah book is attacked. So nu, where's the karma?
  • How hard is it to confuse two Jews?

Matisyahu in Atlanta

As we mentioned earlier, we had the opportunity to hang out with Matisyahu while he was in Atlanta last week and found out that he's in talks to be the musical guest on Saturday Night Live the week before Passover. Now 99X, the radio station which hosted his private concert to a group of 50 lucky fans, has posted pics from that event as well as the audio of an interview they conducted with the Chasidic reggae sensation after his four-song set.

  • Bye bye 2nd Avenue Deli. Hello Hooters.
  • Slow day at the Jerusalem Post. Madonna asks for 'slicha'.
  • Jon Stewart prepares for his Oscar hosting gig and leaves his newborn daughter to enjoy the faint smell of his deodorant.
  • Shameless self-promotion: Intern Silas conducted a telephone interview with Jewish songstress and reality show star Lisa Loeb. Little does he know, we recorded the whole thing.

  • Yada scoop: We hung out with Matisyahu last week in Atlanta and we got word that he's in talks to be the musical guest on Saturday Night Live a week prior to Passover.
  • Michael Jackson's ex-wife wants parental rights over their kids ... and it may have to do with her Jewishness.
  • She's nowhere near a prophet, but Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas does claim to chat with God.
  • Comings and goings: Bob Dylan's coming to Broadway, Jennifer Westfeldt is going to TV, and Harvey Fierstein is heading to Vegas.

  • You say Palestine. I say Palestinian Authority. What will the Oscars say?
  • Baruch Dayan Haemet: Shoshana Damari.
  • Jeff Goldblum is in final talks to star in NBC's drama Seeing Red about a detective who communicates with the dead. This sounds eerily familiar.

  • For those of you dying for your Ali G fix, you can see Sacha Baron Cohen play Will Ferrell's NASCAR rival in the trailer for the upcoming film Talladega Nights.
  • Kudos to Defamer for coming up with this textual gem: "Blissfully unaware of the unpleasant undertones of a young Jewish girl addressing a roomful of Germans about the varied pleasures of having one's hair shaved off, Natalie Portman recently told a group of reporters at the Berlin International Film Festival how much she enjoyed going follicle free for the shooting of V for Vendetta."
  • Maddona is not getting a divorce and it's not because of Kabbalah.

  • It's the year of the Jewish host. The day before Jon Stewart hosts the Oscars, Sarah Silverman will be mistress of ceremonies at the Independent Spirit Awards.
  • Mark Feuerstein, hot off the heels of his Lazy Monday success, has signed on to star as a brain surgeon on a new CBS show.
  • It seems Larry David only cares about one thing: What the New York Times editorial board thinks of his scarf.

  • Mazal tov to Jon Stewart and his wife on the birth of their second child, a baby girl, over the weekend named Maggie Rose. "I don't know that much about women," Stewart told Letterman a few months back when the pregnancy was announced. "A girl, she's going to want me to have tea with her and her panda. Like, what am I going to do with that?"
  • Jerry Springer gets disinvited to a high school dance. Um ... why was he invited in the first place?
  • American Idol winner will perform two concerts in Israel next month ... although we have no clue why the Jerusalem Post would stoop to the punny headline: "Kelly Clarkson to 'Breakaway' in Tel Aviv." It doesn't even make sense.
  • Adam Sandler is in talks to play a gay firefighter in the upcoming film I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry.

  • Roseanne defends the Kabbalah Centre's alleged homophobia. And thank you, Roseanne, for inadvertently informing us of the Kabbalah Centre's alleged homophobia.
  • Subscribe to Vanity Fair. Now.
  • Jack Black on the innate beauty of the menage a trois.
  • From the makers of a Yiddish workout video called Shvitz (seriously) comes a new Yiddish drama. Insert your own Yiddish joke here.

  • Single Jewish girls everywhere, we're sorry to tell you that Zach Braff is no longer on the market. He reportedly asked on-again off-again girlfriend and shiksa goddess Mandy Moore to be his kallah maildle.
  • Ashton Kutcher is upset that the producers of his new film The Guardian made him take off his red Kabbalah bracelet in the film. This sounds awfully close to another story about Ashton from a year ago.
  • Even Christians don't like Britney Spears.
  • Like father (and mother), like son.
  • Last week we told you that Matthew Perry joined the cast of Jewish scribe Aaron Sorkin's new high-concept TV show. Now comes word that fellow member of the tribe Amanda Peet has signed on.
  • Now in theatres: Fateless.
  • Now in theatres (in Turkey): Gary Busey stars as a Jewish doctor who steals organs to sell to Israel. Seriously.
