Vegan eater suing: It would appear that some Jewish inmates at the infamous Rikers Island prison in New York aren't getting their food the way they like it. Though it's unknown if kosher meals are available on demand, three Jewish inmates aren't content with kosher; they want vegan food. The prison's refusal to serve this has prompted a lawsuit, citing religious freedom and now PETA has signed on to support it.
Considering that kashrut doesn't require veganism, per se, who knows if they've got a legal leg to stand on, but it wouldn't be the first time Chosen People had to fight for their right to be, well... chosen behind bars. For more information on those prison advocacies, check out the Aleph Institute and Jewish Prisoner Services International.
