Truman takes on the Jews: In a newly rediscovered diary of former president Harry Truman, who's famous for helping post-war Jews and backing the creation of Israel, it turns out that Mr. Truman wasn't terribly fond of Jews after all. In one entry, he wrote, "The Jews, I find, are very, very selfish. They care not how many ... get murdered or mistreated ... as long as the Jews get special treatment." That's surprising enough, but more disturbing yet: "...neither Hitler nor Stalin has anything on them for cruelty or mistreatment to the under dog."
So how do we remember Truman now? Former president disliked Jews, so he decided to help them and support Israel? How does that work?
