Back to bronze Amy Winehouse is totally stoned. Sort of. The Yada Blog favorite has been represented in two pieces of art at this year's Royal Society of British Artists exhibition, one a bronze sculpture by called Excess, and the other a piece called Celebrity 1. From jewtastic.com:
In Excess, Winehouse is shown in a statue crated [sic] by Guy Portelli which is said to be a comment on “contemporary living, youth culture and values.”
Portelli, who says he is a “huge fan” of Winehouse commented: “I think she is a great talent. I would never make a sculpture of someone I didn’t respect.”
Amy as art? It's about time. Where's Andy Warhol when you need him?
"For me the Jewish religion like all others is an incarnation of the most childish superstitions. And the Jewish people to whom I gladly belong and with whose mentality I have a deep affinity have no different quality for me than all other people. ... As far as my experience goes, they are no better than other human groups, although they are protected from the worst cancers by a lack of power. Otherwise I cannot see anything 'chosen' about them." -- Albert Einstein, in a recently auctioned letter to Eric Gutkind. I don't know what makes him so special.
Happy Birthday, Israel!
It's the 60th anniversary of the founding of the State of Israel, and they're throwing a three-day party/conference (without Babs). The event is meant to be a worldwide discussion of current issues facing Jews and the world. But not everyone is celebrating. From The New York Times:
Missing from the conference will be any serious Arab representation. Arab leaders and thinkers from Egypt, Jordan and the Palestinian areas have been invited, but none have confirmed partly because simultaneously the Arab world will be marking Israel’s 60th anniversary as a catastrophe known as “Nakba Day,” which will involve its own conferences and demonstrations.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad gave his sincere birthday wishes, calling Israel a "stinking corpse." Anyway, congratulations, Israel! We like you just fine!
But Nelson Mandela still wants Amy to perform at his 90th birthday?
Jewish American billionaire, philanthropist and alleged pedophile Jeffrey Epstein will not be running away to Israel. His reasoning: "Would you want to live in Israel?"
Steven Spielberg leaves Robert Downey Jr. speechless.
They said it
"If this is not the biggest Indiana Jones movie yet, I've got to paint Harrison Ford's garage. If it's a flop I've actually got to build him a new garage and then paint that, too. But this film is gonna be huge. It has to be - I'm not too keen on the idea of all that painting." -- Shia LaBeouf on the release of Indiana Jones 4
