After suffering through
endless failed shows, Lisa Edelstein feels surprisingly
right at home with her new hit.
By Gerri Miller
he has played her share of memorable characters,
including a Capitol Hill call girl on The West Wing,
a transsexual on Ally McBeal, and a Jewish
lesbian on Relativity. Last year, Lisa Edelstein’s
repertoire expanded with her role as Dr. Lisa Cuddy
on the breakout Fox drama House, opposite Hugh
Laurie.
“She’s smart, she’s funny, she has attitude, she’s really sophisticated, she dresses well. I enjoy her intelligence, I enjoy her wit, I enjoy her sense of power,” Edelstein raves about the character, whose profession has always interested her. “My dad is a pediatrician, and as a child one of my greatest forms of entertainment was going to the emergency room with him. I loved being in that exciting environment and I’ve never been afraid of gore,” the Boston-born, Brooklyn and New Jersey-raised Edelstein relates. “I love biology and medicine. I’m just not a good student or I would have done that myself.”
