The
Jewish Radio Mafia: Mara Davis
A.K.A.:
"The Grand Dame"
From: Miami, Florida
Age: 35 years
Been in Radio: 10 years
Heard On: 92.9 Dave FM, "Radio Free
Lunch"
THANK YOU CASEY KASEM: "I always
loved music, and growing up I just loved listening to
America’s Top 40," recalls Davis. "My
dad would say if you could do as well in school as you
do knowing what's on the radio, I'd be happy."
IS DAD HAPPY NOW?: "He doesn't have
to pay my rent anymore! He's thrilled."
NO SUCH THING AS A RADIO FREE LUNCH:
"It's tough sometimes," says Davis of coming
up with new themes for her show. "I try to keep it
topical and current, but mostly I have to put together
a list of songs imagining nobody is going to call."
JUDEO-CATHOLI-CULTURAL: "I think
[being Jewish] is a part of my heritage, and I married
a Catholic so I try to stay connected, because I don't
want to fade completely into the Catholic side,"
says Davis about her tribal roots. "It's important,
but it's more of a cultural thing for me."
ON THE FLIP SIDE: The craziest thing
she's ever experienced in radio? That's easy, says Davis.
"Having the station flip formats and still keeping
my job," says the animated song spinner, her eyes
widening at the very thought. "That never happens!"
