The
Jewish Radio Mafia: Bert Weiss
A.K.A.: "Little Caesar"
From: San Diego
Age: 38 years
Been in Radio: 15 years
Heard On: Q100, "The Bert Show"
I'M SUPPOSED TO USE IT?: "Initially I
wanted to do sports on a national level," says Bert of
his radio career. "I created my own sports department
[at a San Diego station] just so I could get in and do
interviews. I got all of this audio and I never used it."
VOTE OF CONFIDENCE: When he showed up
to host Q100's morning show he had no idea what to do.
"They hired a guy who'd never hosted a morning show before,"
says Bert. He went to his boss and asked him what he wanted.
Do what you want; we'll talk in two weeks was the answer.
"We never had that two week conversation," laughs Bert.
"They let me be bad."
ON HIS JEWISH SMARTS: "I'm embarrassed
by it, actually," says Bert of his decided lack of Jewish
knowledge. During his parent's divorce, he rebelled by
bailing on Hebrew school. Now he and his Christian wife
raise their son at church, but don't think Bert has bailed
on being Jewish totally. "I would never convert. It would
feel like a betrayal of my roots, but I don't feel like
I'm missing anything. Maybe I don't know what I'm missing."
